Morning Supervision According to the Archdiocesan Protocol Reference Manuel, YouthSafe Outdoors, Guidelines for BC School Safety: “In-the-area-supervision means that while any supervisor may not be able to see all of the students at one time, the students know where the supervisors are and can contact one if necessary.”

Outdoor Morning Supervision

  • Parent supervisors are here in the morning at 8:00 a.m. The school aims to have one-two supervisors in the parking lot/drop off area and one at the front of the school by the primary playground. If there is an extra supervisor that supervisor circulates around the outside of the school.
  • Staff begin supervision at 8:15 a.m. The staff circulates around the school grounds.
  • Please do not send your child(ren) to school before 8:00 a.m. unless you intend to stay with your child(ren) until a supervisor arrives. There is no supervision before 8:00 a.m.

Afterschool Supervision

  • A teacher supervises the playground until 3:20 p.m. At this time students who are not picked up or who do not have an adult present with them are asked to go inside the school.
  • If your child(ren) normally walk(s) home, please understand there is no supervision on the school grounds after 3:20p.m.

Encouraging Mass Attendance

  • Families are strongly encouraged to have their child(ren) attend Mass regularly. Mass is celebrated every morning at 8:15 a.m. Parents are most welcome to drop their child(ren) before school at church. Children are asked to bring all their personal belongings with them (into the pews/bench). Please do not leave them at the back of the church.

Rainy Day Policy for Children Before School

  • On days when the school determines it is a rainy day, children are permitted into the school at 8:30 a.m. Please note that school does not begin until 8:45 a.m.
  • There will be one parent supervisor in the upper parking (child drop-off area) of the school parking lot only.
  • The two remaining supervisors as well as a teacher will be in the school from 8:30 – 8:45 a.m. supervising the children. On rainy days the parent office assistant is also asked to assist in the supervision of the children in the school.
  • Children only will be permitted entrance to the school via the doors between the grade 6 and grade 7 classrooms. No adult may enter the school through these doors. There must be a parent supervisor (with safety vest on) in attendance at this door or no child is permitted access through it. Regular access for all students and adults will remain via the main door.
