Terry Fox Run – October 1st, 2026

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are excited to announce that Our Lady of Mercy School will be participating in the annual Terry Fox Run on Thursday, October 1, 2026. This meaningful event honours the legacy of one of Canada’s greatest heroes and supports life-saving cancer research.

About Terry Fox Terry Fox was a courageous young Canadian who lost his right leg to cancer at the age of 18. In 1980, he set out on a cross-country run called the Marathon of Hope to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. He ran a marathon a day for 143 days, covering over 5,300 km, before being forced to stop when his cancer returned. Terry passed away at age 22, but his dream lives on.

Each year, millions of people around the world take part in Terry Fox Runs to continue his mission. More than $950 million has been raised in his name for cancer research.

Terry once said:

“Even if I don’t finish, we need others to continue. It’s got to keep going without me.”

Our School’s Role Students will take part in the run/walk during school hours, and we encourage everyone to participate in our dress down day by wearing appropriate red and white clothing and footwear for this outdoor activity. This event is not only about fundraising—it’s also about community, resilience, and honouring a true Canadian role model.

Our Lady of Mercy School has set a fundraising goal of $1000, and are asking each student to donate a minimum of $2.00. In addition, we welcome donations to support the Terry Fox Foundation. Contributions can be sent directly to the school in a sealed envelope labelled Terry Fox Run.

Thank you for supporting this important cause and helping us keep Terry’s dream alive.
