Newsletter – 2021 October 28

“Prayer instils an invincible hope in the human heart: whatever experience may touch us on our journey,
God’s love can turn it into good. True freedom is guided by love and is expressed in service to others.
Love makes us free, it leads us to choose and to do good, it motivates us to serve.”

Pope Francis

Hallowe’en
Halloween is the night of October 31st. The word means “Hallow’s Eve.” Hallow is the same word for
“holy” that we find in the Lord’s Prayer, and e’en is a contraction of “evening.” The word Halloween
itself is a shortened form of “All Hallows Eve,’ the day before All Saints Day.

This holiday, properly understood and celebrated with all of its fun trappings, can be a way for us to
deepen our understanding of our faith. The key to this understanding is close at hand for Catholics in
our love of the communion of saints.

Halloween isn’t just the way we end October. It is the way we begin November. On Halloween Night –
the holy Eve of All Saints’ day – we begin the church’s month to remember the dead.

Unsolved Mystery of the Roaming Woman
The Grade 7’s are preparing an “unsolved Mystery of the Roaming Woman” for grades 4 to 6.

The primaries will be participating in classroom activities and Hallowe’en stations. No interaction
between the classes will take place and Covid safety procedures will be followed.

We are asking for a $2.00 donation to be donated to Agape Street Ministry and Canuck Place.

Classroom Halloween Celebrations

  • Students may come in costume on Friday, October 29, 2021
  • Students are not allowed to bring in accessories such as mask, swords, shields, wands, etc.
  • The school will provide a treat for the students. No outside treats allowed.

Online Craft Fair
Just a reminder that the Online Craft Fair is now available for you to view and make a purchase until
next Friday, November 5th. This fundraiser features unique and personal items designed by your little
artists. Order a priceless keepsake of your child’s masterpiece at https://busybeecreates.square.site/.

Please see the upcoming notice regarding the Craft Fair that will be sent out by the classroom teachers.
This notice will display all the available items for purchase. The items are a fabulous keepsake and
Christmas gift.

Remembrance Day
On 9:15am, Wednesday, Nov. 10th, the students will join together in a virtual assembly a link will be sent
to parents on Tuesday, November 9th to honour the men and women who sacrificed their lives so that
we may have peace. I’d like to thank Ms. Boots and Mrs. Ladouceur for preparing this important day of
Remembrance.

Multi-Sport Day Camp – November 19th, 2021
OLM parents Geoffrey and Sandra Lenahan are offering a multi-sport day camp in the OLM gymnasium
on November 19th, from 9am-3pm. They run 2-4-1 Sports New West camps in the summer, and are
happy to bring to the students their program based on fun and exposure to various sports and activities.

Registration is online at https://forms.gle/CFNQCY3iwhdJdfdB7. More info about Geoff, Sandra, and 2-
4-1 sports can be found at 241sports.ca.

Cost is $55 per child, and space is limited to the first 20 kids.

And for those wondering about the name – Life’s 2 Short 4 Just 1 Sport!

REMINDER – Label School Uniforms
We have an abundance of lost and found items in our office of school clothing. If there is no name on
the clothing we do not know who to return the item to. As all students wear the same uniform, it is
important to put your child’s name on their uniform so it can be returned to the rightful owner. When
purchased from the Used Uniform sales please ensure you label your child’s name on their clothing as
we’ve had lots of items returned with previous children’s names who attended OLM. We will only keep
items that are not labeled for 2 weeks. If unclaimed after that time, they will be donated for Used
Uniforms.
